SEEL June Virtue - Love

June – the virtue of Love

“Love ought to manifest itself more by deeds than by words.”

-Spiritual Exercise 230

Ignatius would have a pause and sift through all the great good we have known in our lives. How has God moved within us and shaped us? What blessings have we received? How have we been redeemed? Ignatius asks us to look to God with gratitude and respond to God’s love and grace. “Since God has first loved us love is now no longer a mere ‘command’; it is the response to the gift of love with which God draws near to us.” (Pope Benedict) Ignatius reminds us that love is not only a feeling, but also a choice. May we be disposed to love one another and serve one another as our beloved friend Jesus modeled for us.
