New! How to Help the People of Ukraine
EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST AND CENTRAL ASIA: Ukraine
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has killed and injured thousands of people and has forced millions to flee their homes, either to relatively safer areas of the country or to neighboring countries. Throughout Ukraine, people are facing shortages of food, shelter, water and transport, as they suffer increasing trauma and loss. Many of those fleeing spend days waiting in lines in freezing weather, with small children and elderly family members. To date, nearly 2 million people have fled to neighboring countries including Poland,
Moldova, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.
Years of conflict along the eastern border had already displaced people from their homes and claimed 14,000 lives. Throughout this time, Caritas Ukraine, with support from CRS, has been providing emergency relief and recovery. Collections for CRS are ongoing in the Sunday basket.

A prayer for Ukraine
Loving God,
We pray for the people of Ukraine,
for all those suffering or afraid,
that you will be close to them and protect them.
We pray for world leaders,
for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices.
We pray for the world
that in this moment of crisis,
we may reach out in solidarity
to our brothers and sisters in need.
May we walk in your ways
so that peace and justice
become a reality for the people of Ukraine
and for all the world.
Amen.
A Prayer for Ukraine
Loving God,
We pray for the people of Ukraine, for all those suffering and afraid, that You will be close to them and protect them. We pray for world leaders, for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices.
A Prayer for Ukraine
God of peace and justice,
we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
that you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen

Prayer for Ukraine
O Prince of Peace,
Once more we hear the guns of war,
Once more we see the faces Of frightened children.
We pray for the people of Ukraine,
That they may be granted peace;
We pray for the people of Russia,
That they may demand peace;
We pray for our country,
That we may be a positive part Of peacemaking in this world.
O Prince of Peace,
Lead us from this dark time To a deeper understanding Of the global human family,
So all may break bread together In the secure embrace of peace. Amen
Jane Deren, Ph.D.
